Client Bill of Rights

Effective date: April 19, 2024
Last updated: July 20, 2026

Applicability

This Client Bill of Rights applies to PPWG programs and facilities to the extent they are licensed or certified as alcohol or other drug recovery or treatment facilities, or otherwise required to provide these rights under California Health and Safety Code section 11857 et seq.

This notice does not limit rights available under other laws, including HIPAA, California medical privacy law, disability law, or rights provided by a health plan or another treating provider.

Your Rights

If this notice applies to your program, you have the right to:

  • be treated honestly, respectfully, and with dignity, including privacy in treatment and personal care;
  • receive clear information about recommended treatment, alternatives including no treatment, material risks, and expected results;
  • receive services from qualified staff acting within their authorization and competence;
  • receive evidence-based treatment appropriate to the services PPWG is authorized to provide;
  • receive treatment for co-occurring conditions when medically appropriate and within PPWG's authorization and capability;

Accurate Marketing and Referral Practices

PPWG will identify itself accurately in marketing, advertising, calls, and online materials. PPWG will not make false or misleading statements about its identity, location, services, levels of care, provider relationships, insurance-network status, or website address. PPWG will not use deceptive redirects or imply a relationship with another treatment provider without written authorization.

Marketing must describe the types and methods of services PPWG actually provides and where they are provided, in clear language. Patient testimonials, outcome statements, insurance statements, and referral statements must be accurate, authorized, and appropriately qualified.

Privacy and Confidentiality

Your health information is protected by the Medical Information Privacy Practices and other applicable law. Some substance-use-disorder records may receive additional protection under federal and California law. Ask PPWG if you have questions about how your information may be used or shared.
