Pacific Pain & Wellness Group has the expertise to help you reach your health goals and management of pain with acupuncture treatments. Acupuncture triggers the release of natural pain-blocking and anti-inflammatory compounds. We have successfully brought relief to patients through acupuncture.

History of Acupuncture

It originated in China, over 3000 years ago and is practiced worldwide.

Fine needles (32–36 gauge) are inserted into body locations known as acupoints. According to the traditional Chinese medicine system (TCM), there are 356 mapped points located on meridians or channels of energy flow on the surface of the body. Health is achieved by maintaining the body in a balanced state. Disease is considered a result of an internal imbalance of “yin and yang” or positive and negative energies, leading to blockage in the flow of vital energy along pathways known as meridians. According to TCM, there are more than 2,000 acupuncture points on the human body. These correlations are based on close clinical observations that have existed for thousands of years.

Releasing Natural Opioid

Acupuncture affects the cerebrospinal fluid concentrations of the naturally occurring opiate substances: dynorphin (acting at spinal level), endorphin (acting within the brain), and encephalin (acting both in the brain and at a spinal level). Endorphins and encephalins are potent blockers or modulators of pain arising from the musculoskeletal system. Dynorphin is a powerful modulator of visceral pain and has a weaker effect on musculoskeletal pain modulation.
